AI at Hardcastle
AI does the volume. Judgment does the deciding.
Hardcastle Advisory Group runs AI inside the practice: first-pass contract deviation mapping, records triage at volumes no human can economically read, drafting acceleration on internal work. What it never does is decide. If you are trusting us with a contract, you are entitled to know exactly how it is handled. This page sets out the rules.
The honest position
Most firms either hide their AI use or oversell it. Both should worry you.
Modern AI is genuinely good at reading a lot of text quickly, and badly suited to judgment. A machine can map every place your Particular Conditions depart from the unamended form in minutes. It cannot tell you which deviation will actually hurt you on a live project in the Gulf, because that answer depends on the Employer, the Engineer, your programme and your appetite.
The first task is volume. The second is judgment. We use machines for the first and refuse them the second. Anyone can wire up a model; what almost nobody in this market has is twelve years of contractor-side judgment to catch the output being wrong. A notice citing the wrong sub-clause is worthless. A quantum build-up on tendered rates will not survive an Option C assessment. Knowing that is the product. The AI is just leverage on it.
The operating rules
Four rules our tooling is built to.
Not aspirations. Constraints, enforced in how the pipeline is engineered: the model is only ever asked what a document says and to quote it. Comparison, ranking and citation are deterministic code. Deciding what matters is a person.
No citation without a quote
A finding must resolve to verbatim text in your document. If the machine cannot quote it, it does not get reported. This makes invented clause references structurally impossible, not just discouraged.
"Not found" is an answer
Gaps are reported as gaps. Nothing is filled with a plausible guess, because plausible is what wrong looks like just before it costs money.
No risk scores
Judgment is not computable. A number that pretends otherwise is worse than no number, so our reviews rank and explain risk. They do not score it.
Nothing leaves unreviewed
The human gate is structural, not a policy. Every output is checked, corrected where needed, and signed by Craig Hardcastle before a client sees it.

One more deliberate choice: the free tools on this site contain no AI at all. A deadline calculator must never hallucinate, so every tool is plain, inspectable code that runs in your browser, and nothing you type there is uploaded. The one place AI does face you is Ask the library: it answers from our published material only, cites every source, and works to the four rules above. Confidentiality
Your documents are working papers, not training data.
Client documents are processed under commercial API terms with zero data retention: not stored by the provider, not used to train models, deleted after processing. Access is limited to the people working your matter. Much of our work is confidential contractor-side support, and it is handled accordingly.
And if a matter is sensitive enough that no third-party processing is acceptable, say so. The review is done without AI, the slower way, to the same standard.
