Timeline
NEC compensation-event timeline.
NEC rewards procedural discipline and punishes drift. Map the key dates of a single compensation event — notification, quotation and the Project Manager’s reply — with the governing clause on each step and every period editable to your Contract Data.

The quotation and reply clocks run from the instruction to quote, not from notification. Fill this to date those steps.
- 1 Notify the compensation eventBy the deadline below · cl. 61.3 · default, overridable in Contract Data
- 2 Submit the quotationWithin the quotation period of being instructed to quote · cl. 62.3
- 3 Project Manager repliesWithin the reply period of the quotation · cl. 62.3 / 64.1
Enter the date the Contractor became aware to map the timeline.
The 8-week bar is not absolute. The clause 61.3 time-bar does not apply to a compensation event that arises from the Project Manager or Supervisor giving an instruction, changing a decision, or another Employer-side act the PM should have notified.
Indicative only, not legal advice. Default NEC periods are shown; your Contract Data governs the actual periods, and assessment also depends on the Accepted Programme. Periods are counted in calendar weeks. Always confirm against your contract and take advice on a live matter.
CE pipeline drifting?
Compensation events lose value when they age, and a stale Accepted Programme hands the Project Manager the lever. Live commercial control keeps the pipeline current. Confidential, no obligation.
